The Search Is On!

So I'm trying to find a dining table. I actually build the dining room to suit a 3m long dining table ... to short and its not going to line up with the edge of my kitchen bench and my light fixture wont sit central to the table. 

Oh joy ... it sounds so easy but I'm struggling to find one that isn't ridiculously priced and still matches. 

I did find this one but to me it seems that little bit too rustic for my space. I think the legs might almost save it for me but I'm really just not sure ... thoughts anyone?

 

 

Life Is Messy

I was watching TV last night and saw the Viva commercial ... life is messy.

Well yes ... life is messy, unless you are the type to spend most of your life cleaning up after others as well as yourself life is going to be messy. Obviously you kind of want to sit somewhere in the middle of the scale, you want to be able to keep the house clean ... tidy and overall easy to look on without going overboard and spending ALL DAY every day keeping it perfect.

We have some friends ... some very close friends who are down at the messier / dirtier end of the scale. The bathroom is full of hair, your feet crunch on sand and crumbs when you walk through the door and there are always fingerprints on doors and windows. To be honest I don't even think my husband would stick to the five second rule in their house. Do we judge them ... not really and we don't live there so whatever makes them happy but for us in our house ... its just not cool.

Lacey is one of our biggest challenges and not in the way you would think. She doesn't shed hair and is fairly clean but her BIG thing ... she spends all day spreading every single one of her toys around the house and every night before bed we wander around collecting them and putting them away. Would we change it ... hell no they make her happy but is it something to think about when considering kids .... I think so!

Something Light

Guess where we will be heading off to at Christmas.

Actually let me start again ... the only thing worse than counting down the days before a holiday is that moment when you get back and realise you don't have any new holiday to look forward to. For me the last 4 - 5 months although busy have not been filled with holiday thoughts .... they are filled with tiles and budgets and all sorts of stress and pain. So imagine my relief to finally have another holiday to look forward to. Obviously I will fill you in a bit more in the future but right now just the title should give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Miss V vs Ikea - Miss V Wins

 

So I promised you some good pics of the dressing room and who am I to disappoint my favourite peoples ... I am so so so happy with this room. To be honest I cant seem to stop smiling as I think about how lovely it is to have such a well organised dressing room. I have lace and ruffles and heels on show ... I have space for all my clutches and although there are still a few finishing touches to find things are moving forward swimmingly. Its really rather pleasant to wake up knowing all of my favorite things are sitting happily behind my head ... properly housed and ready to be admired.

Can you not tell how happy I am with this space .... so let me start with hubby space. He has more than enough and has decided he might own a few too many t-shirts.

Now for my shoes ... oh yes, I am well aware I own too many pairs of shoes and you know what ... Call me silly but shoes make me happy ... having shoes on show make me even happier!

And finally my dresses ... to be able to look at these every day and know that they are more than happy with their new home gives me shivers - how can you not be happy with a wardrobe like this?

Ikea Obsession

I know this week I have been harping on about Ikea and my dressing room but what I don't think you realise is that for the last week it has consumed us. .. every evening we put more stuff together and today should be it. Tonight we will be installing clothes and finishing it.


Please don't laugh but I actually feel a certain amount of pride at being able to finish this .... no really, its not easy but hell does it all look good. Have a look at all the little itty bitty screws and dowells you get when you open the box. Have a look at the instructions which almost take a university degree to actually understand .... 

I promise when its actually light to take proper pictures to give you some idea on the overall image but for now just a few more sneak peeks.

I will say I just couldn't wait to start putting my heels away. They finally have a beautiful new home where I can admire them whenever I want! What could be better than that ... now really???

My Ikea Dressing Room - Coming Together

Let me start by saying that putting together an Ikea dressing room is not an easy task. Although not difficult it takes you a while to get your head around the "Ikea Way". The thing is, just when you think you have it sussed out something changes which throws you back into that blind "I'll never figure this out" panic! 

 

Its so bad that at the moment Ikea have this advert on the TV with a guy dancing around happy and excited because Ikea have a sale .... Every time hubby sees this ad he shakes his head and mumbles.... "as if he has anything to be excited about!"

However saying that, if not for Ikea we would not have been able to afford a beautifully kitted out dressing room like we are going to have. 

So, is it worth it? ... Yes. 

Would I do it again? ... Yes

Is it painful and stressful and just a little bit torturous? .... Hell Yes!

Hopefully tomorrow I should have some pictures of the finished units .... but for now, a sneak peak of the job - so far!

A Break

We have decided that for us its extremely important to not make everything about the house. Regular breaks and infusions of fun are a necessity not only to keep us sane but to keep us from killing each other. Obviously I'm not a huge fan of the football however I did enjoy watching all the people, listening to the roar of the crowds and watching hubby's face change from ecstatic to devastated in a matter of minutes. All in all a good night out .... now back to the house and the war zone that currently is the dressing room!
